Biography

Henry Bloor was born in 2008 in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he spent the early years of his life before moving to New Westminster. Growing up, Henry immersed himself in a wide variety of sports and extracurricular activities, from hockey, football, basketball, volleyball, and martial arts to an impressive musical journey that began at just three years old with piano lessons and later expanded to guitar, bass, and drums.

Throughout his formative years, Henry built deep, meaningful friendships across different age groups. These relationships played a key role in shaping his strong social skills, emotional intelligence, and leadership qualities. That same ability to connect with others and build a supportive circle has been central to every important milestone Henry has achieved at a young age.

In addition to his academic and extracurricular involvement, Henry is also a published author. His books reflect his interest in storytelling and his experiences growing up in British Columbia. As part of his effort to give back, he donated copies of his books to several elementary and middle schools in New Westminster to encourage young students to read and express themselves creatively. The response from the schools was warm and appreciative, highlighting the positive impact of his gesture.

Now a published author and early high school graduate (Class of 2025), Henry continues to apply his talents and experiences across many areas, creative, academic, athletic, and personal, always driven by a desire to grow, give back, and inspire others.

Goals

Henry is a dedicated student working toward a transfer into the Molecular Biology program at the University of British Columbia after completing his first year at Douglas College. He is committed to academic excellence in biology, chemistry, and mathematics as preparation for a future in medicine.

His long-term goal is to become a cardiothoracic surgeon. To support this path, he is building a strong academic foundation and actively pursuing opportunities for growth through volunteering, leadership experiences, and consistent self-discipline.

Beyond the classroom, Henry values structure, health, and personal development. He prioritizes clear communication, effective time management, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Each goal he sets reflects his focus on contributing meaningfully to the medical field and succeeding in a demanding professional environment.

Awards and Certificates

Henry has received various awards and certificates throughout his academic journey and community involvement. These include recognition for academic excellence, leadership, athletic achievements, and dedicated volunteer service. Each award reflects a different aspect of his commitment to learning, growth, and contributing to those around him.

In addition to the certificates displayed here, Henry has received several letters of recommendation, referrals, and appreciation from teachers, mentors, and organizations. These cannot be posted here for privacy and confidentiality reasons, but they serve as important acknowledgments of his character, work ethic, and positive impact.

Volunteer Work

Henry has volunteered at educational institutions in New Westminster, where he helped young students strengthen their foundational skills in math and English. He was recognized in a recommendation letter for his strong work ethic, positive attitude, punctuality, adaptability, initiative, and genuine interest in supporting student success. Following the completion of over 30 volunteer hours, he was offered a staff position at Kumon’s Math and Reading Centre of New Westminster, where he continues to contribute to student learning and development.

Beyond academic settings, Henry has also made contributions to literacy and creativity in his community. He donated free copies of his two published books to five local schools, including four elementary and one middle school. The donation was well received and acknowledged by the schools, reflecting Henry’s commitment to inspiring young readers and encouraging creative expression.

In addition to formal volunteer roles, Henry supports members of his local and extended community in informal ways, offering help to seniors, and assisting with tasks. These efforts reflect his values of empathy, responsibility, and consistent service.

Henry also volunteers informally with families his own family knows well. He spends time with children who benefit from extra attention, helping with homework, reading together, or engaging them in structured activities. These moments are focused on providing a positive and supportive environment that contributes to their development and overall well-being.

Together, these experiences reflect Henry’s sense of responsibility, patience, and care for others. His volunteer efforts show a thoughtful approach to giving back and a willingness to support those around him in everyday, practical ways. Whether in an organized setting or within his own community, Henry values the importance of service and connection as part of his personal growth.

Schools Attended

Henry attended Connaught Heights Elementary School in New Westminster for six years, from Kindergarten through Grade 5. After graduating, he wrote and published Henry in Connaught Heights, a book inspired by his early school experiences. As a gesture of appreciation, he donated eight copies to the school, where they were warmly received by students and staff.

He then went on to attend École Glenbrook Middle School for Grades 6 through 8. Following his time there, Henry published Henry at Glenbrook Middle School, capturing highlights and reflections from those formative years. He donated four copies to the school’s library to encourage reading and inspire current students.

Henry completed his high school education at New Westminster Secondary School, finishing Grades 9 to 12 in just three years. He graduated with the Class of 2025, one year earlier than expected. He plans to write a third book based on his experiences at NWSS.

These schools played a central role in Henry’s growth and education. His books and contributions reflect not only a strong connection to his academic journey but also a commitment to giving back and inspiring others.

Sports & Activities

Henry has been actively involved in a variety of sports throughout his life, including basketball, volleyball, soccer, lacrosse, and hockey. These experiences have helped shape his character, teaching him the value of teamwork, dedication, and pushing beyond comfort zones. Whether on a court, field, or ice rink, he consistently approached each sport with a strong work ethic and a desire to improve.

One of his most defining athletic experiences was playing football for the NWSS Hyacks over two seasons. He began as a running back and linebacker before being moved to the offensive and defensive line. At just 5'6" and 165 lbs, Henry was the shortest and lightest player in his position group, competing alongside linemen who were often several inches taller and dozens of pounds heavier. Rather than letting the size gap discourage him, he embraced the challenge and worked his way up to a second-string guard role. The next closest player in terms of size stood at 5'9", 210 lbs, highlighting the physical gap Henry had to overcome through effort, discipline, and a desire to prove himself. Although he stepped away from the sport due to unrelated medical conditions and concerns, the experience remains one of his proudest and most formative challenges.

Across all his athletic pursuits, Henry has earned recognition for both performance and attitude, including multiple game MVPs in minor league hockey as a goalie. His involvement in sports has played an essential role in developing his leadership skills, discipline, and resilience, which are qualities he now carries into his academic and professional goals.
